SAN MARCOS, Calif. - On Saturday morning, the Concordia University Irvine cross country programs journeyed down south to compete at the Cougar Challenge. Both teams gave some of their athletes from last week's race an opportunity to rest while giving the chance for other runners to get more experience. Despite having transportation issues on the drive down, the Golden Eagles rose to the occasion to give strong performances against nationally ranked squads.
On the men's side,
Colin Bervig was the first Golden Eagle to cross the finish line with a time of 26:12. Working as a pack,
Michael Vaquilar and
Isaiah Duport finished next while
Marcus Shin and
Bryce Tondryk rounded out the top five scorers.
The women's 6k race saw
Adriana Gil finish in the top 25 of a deep field that consisted of 196 athletes.
Porshe Eismann was the second fastest Golden Eagle of the day with a time of 23:07. Meanwhile
Audrey Barcenas and
Brittany Widerburg, who were making their 6k debut, kicked her way to finish soon after.
