LINCOLN, Nebr. - The Golden Eagles traveled to the mid-west, taking their talents to the Prairie Wolf Invite held at Nebraska Weslayan in their first indoor meet of the year. After a successful showing at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite in early December, the Green and Gold were excited to get back to competing. The destination is a little colder than they're used to in Irvine.
Logan Nelson started the day off for the Golden Eagles, who propelled herself into the finals for the 60m dash with a strong race in the preliminaries and pushed herself further to finish 2nd in the finals. She ran an 8.04, qualifying for the finals, and finished the event with a 7.96, only .02 behind the winner.
Hunter Hornaday threw for a 1-meter PR in the weight throw to highlight his day.
In her first official meet with the Golden Eagles,
Karyn Best advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles after a strong finish in her preliminary race, qualifying for the finals with a time of 9.29. She followed her placement in the preliminary race with a seventh-place finish in the finals.
Gabe Jones had a strong day in Lincoln in the 60m dash and triple jump. Starting his day with the 60m dash, he fought his way into qualifying for the finals taking the final spot. Jones followed this strong race with an even more significant triple jump, earning a new personal best in the event with a 14.08m.
Sarah Fajer continued to chase an appearance at the DII Indoor National meet after scoring a provisional qualifying mark in early December. Fajer recorded an assertive 13.40m for her first throw, which proved to be the top mark of the entire event, topping 19 other competitors.
Jori Paradis started her senior season with the Golden Eagles off with a strong day in the mile by winning the event and recording a personal best at 5:10, edging past a Central College competitor by a second!
The men's mile was a success for the Golden Eagles, with
Hector Arteaga and
Noah Plaza taking second and third place in the event, respectively.
Plaza continued his freshman season with the program and continues to make a name for himself after taking first in the 3000m race, with teammate Arteaga following in shortly behind two seconds later.
The Golden Eagles continued to showcase their strong ability to dominate in the 4x4 relay with a first-place win by
Maria Sartin,
Madison Fearon,
Porshe Eismann, and
Ruby Bishop. They finished 13 seconds ahead of the second-place team with a time of 4:02.75.
Ryan Santana recorded a new indoor personal best in the shot put at 13.63m, earning a fourth-place finish in the event.
The Golden Eagles aren't quite ready to leave the brisk weather in Nebraska as they travel just northwest of Lincoln to participate in Concordia Nebraska's Polar Dog Invitational in Seward.
