SEWARD, Neb. - On the second day of their road trip to the Cornhusker state, the Golden Eagles of CUI track & field traveled northwest of the state capital to participate in the Polar Dog Invite on Saturday. Their first meet of the new year at Nebraska Wesleyan proved to be an excellent start for the program, and they looked to finish out their trip with further success.
Romane Baudin finished her impressive weekend with a third-place finish in the long jump. At the same time, teammate Gabriella Hiraldo recorded another strong performance in the high jump, improving her mark from yesterday in Lincoln with a 1.59m jump.
Gabe Jones continued to show strength in the triple jump, finishing 3rd with a 13.80m best in the event.
Karyn Best took second in the 60m hurdle prelims and finals to continue a strong start in her Golden Eagles career. Maria Sartin collected her first individual win of the season with a top-place finish in the 600m, crossing the line with a time of 1:36.27.
Junior sprinter Logan Nelson produced an outstanding result in the 60m event, taking second place with a time of 7.96, staying consistent with her finals time the day prior. Teammate Romane Baudin joined Nelson in the event's final and finished 6th in her first event of the year.
Cooper Tirado, a new face in the program, showed what he's capable of in the 60m dash with an impressive race taking second and qualifying for the finals in his first indoor race with CUI. He finished third in the finals but clocked his fastest time of the day at 7.03.
Senior Jori Paradis finished her strong weekend in Nebraska with a second-place finish in the 1000m with a time of 3:02.21. She finished in the top 2 of each event she participated in this weekend, showcasing her veteran experience.
Sara Feitz took second in the mile run, crossing the finish at 5:28.66, providing a great start to her season.
The Golden Eagles will return home to Irvine and prepare for their next meets at the beginning of February at OCC, and the Bearcat Invite in Missouri.
