AZUSA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team played against Azusa Pacific to start their three game stanza week on Tuesday. The match went the distance going to five sets marking their sixth of the season. APU won with close scores 25-19, 13-25, 18-25, 25-19, and 19-17.
Kirra Schulz put up staggering numbers with 29 kills while hitting an impressive .390 and adding another double-double match with 13 digs. After becoming the
PacWest Player of the Week last week she sets the bar high as the 29 kills puts Schulz at the top of the CUI record book for a five set match. Senior
Danielle McCasland tied her personal best of 14 kills while also hitting an impressive .333. Outside hitter
Kennedy Farley finished with 13 kills and led the Green and Gold with two aces.
Middle blockers
Caitlin Jarrell had four blocks with two solo and 10 kills while
Halli Hooks added four kills and a block.
Julia Wilson had a dominant defense presence with 28 digs and
Daniela Poles contributing nine digs as well.
Alyson Fullbright put up 30 assists along with
Kawehi Chang posting 28. As a duo the setters reached double digits in digs and had a combined 21.
The second set was serving dominant as Fullbright and
Cassie Prior went on runs to extend CUI lead and not allow APU back in the set. In the third set the Golden Eagles continued their momentum and reached 25 first. The fifth set was a battle as the Cougars took the lead at the side switch and closed out the match with 19 points.
The Golden Eagles play against Academy of Art Friday Oct. 13 and Dominican Saturday Oct. 14 with start times at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the CU Arena.
