IRVINE, Calif. – First-year swimmer
Rachel Maki is already proving to be a major part of her team's success in the pool.
Maki was named the PCSC Female Freshman Swimmer of the Week after helping
Concordia put on a great showing at last weekend's Rodionoff Invitational up in Malibu.
Maki won the open 1000 freestyle on Friday in a blistering time of 10:41:40, which was strong enough to be the top time in the PCSC by nearly 20 seconds! She became the first CUI female swimmer in the past six years to win an event at the Rodionoff Invitational. She also already ranks No. 7 in CUI history in that event and now in the Top 20 in NCAA Division II.
On Saturday, the Redding, Calif. native took second place in the open 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.42 in the pool. That ranked third in the conference as well. The University Prep School alum was also third in the women's 200 freestyle among D2 participants and that ranked eighth in the PCSC.
The CUI women won the team title among all D2 schools and the CUI men also placed first in the annual meet hosted by Pepperdine.
Both CUI teams visit The Master's University next this Saturday, Oct. 21
The Golden Eagles will then host Redlands for a dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. The confirmed location for that home meet against Redlands will be at nearby Portola High School and admission is free.
