IRVINE, Calif. – For the first time in her career, Concordia's Izzy Navarro is your PacWest Conference Player of the Week!

The freshman guard from Tijuana, Mexico averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in Concordia's first two home games against GNAC schools.

She scored a team-high 23 points on Friday against Simon Fraser University. She filled up the stat sheet too with five assists, five rebounds, five steals and three blocks against the Red Leafs.

Navarro then posted a career-high 26 points to help navigate CUI past Northwest Nazarene 92-76 on Saturday. She shot 50 percent from the floor and 4-for-6 from three-point land to lead the charge.  CUI shot 48 percent from downtown (14-for-29) as a team against the Nighthawks and led by as many as 19 before securing their first home win. She added three rebounds and three assists with a steal in the victory.

"I am so proud of my teammates, everyone contributed to the win," said Navarro. "The bench's energy got us going early and the constant grit from everyone on the court was key to our win!"
 
A graduate of Cathedral Catholic High School, Navarro has already scored in double figures on four occasions in her first six games as a Golden Eagle.

"It is a huge blessing and super exciting knowing that my team has my back and helps me contribute to the team in such a way," added Navarro. "It's amazing knowing I can trust every person on that team to push me to be the best version of myself on the court."

CUI gets a week off from games to focus on classes and practice before opening conference play against local rival Biola in La Mirada on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The men will also face off following that contest at 7:30 p.m. as part of Concordia's first PacWest doubleheader.

CUI will be back home again on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. to face the Dominican Penguins.
