PITTSBURG, Kan. - It's been a busy indoor season for the Golden Eagles of CUI track & field. After getting back from Missouri late last weekend, they hopped back on a plane to travel to the Midwest. This time they took their talents to Kansas to participate in the 8th Annual Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State.
Highlighting the day was the men's and women's distance medley relay squads setting two new school records in back-to-back events. The women's side kicked it off with a new record of 11:59 in the event, consisting of four returning Golden Eagles;
Jori Paradis,
Sara Feitz,
Maria Sartin, and
Logan Nelson.
Following the ladies was the men's four-man squad of
Noah Plaza,
Bryce Tondryk,
Hector Arteaga, and
Cooper Tirado who broke their newly set record from last week by 8 seconds. Their new time in the event was 10:04.
This is the first time in program history that these squads have ever earned NCAA provisional marks, let alone, earning them in back-to-back races. On top of those two amazing group efforts,
Gabe Jones and
Cooper Tirado both set new personal records in the 60m dash event. Meanwhile, Nano Aguirre ran an outstanding 5K race against a strong field.
The Golden Eagles kept their momentum going into Saturday's events and produced some stellar performances.
On the track, Paradis kicked the day off with a top five finish in the 3000 meter run while Arteaga and Plaza would inch closer to a provisional mark in the mile. In the field event portion of the meet,
Sarah Fajer finished third in the shotput as she moved up to no. 27 on the indoor qualifying list. Then in the triple jump
Darrian Williams was able to come away with a top ten placement as she becomes closer to be coming yet another Golden Eagle with a provisional standard.
Concordia will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 18 at the SOKA Invitational in Mission Viejo.
