IRVINE, Calif. - On Tuesday evening the CUI men's lacrosse team looked to earn their third straight win over a nationally-ranked opponent as #20 South Carolina looked to play spoiler on Teacher Appreciation Night.
In the first half, both Concordia and South Carolina would trade goals as each squad tried to gain some separation. The Green and Gold would be able to end the second quarter with momentum as they took a 6-4 lead heading into the locker room. Despite being down, the Gamecocks would come into next quarter firing on all cylinders scoring three goals and holding Concordia scoreless.Â
With the game tied at 7 late in the game,Â
Jake Cloutier's goal from
Braden Schneider gave CUI the lead and started an offensive clinic on the Gamecocks' defense. Any murmurs of a potential upset were quickly silenced in the final 15 minutes of play as Concordia would come roaring back, as they outscored South Carolina 6-3 in the final quarter.Â
CUI would defend the home turf with a 12-10 win which moved them to a strong 4-1 start to the 2023 season.

Nick Beeson who had 4 points (2g, 2a). On defese,
Daniel Yang made 10 saves including four clutch stops in the fourth quarter. Then in a battle between two of the best FOGO's in the MCLA,Â
Cade Poe went 11 of 21 (52%) at the Face Off.
CUI will be back at home for their Alumni Appreciation Game on March. 11 at 1:00 p.m. as they play UCLA.
