AZUSA, Calif.:Â The best in the west gathered for the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific, inviting some of the best track & field athletes in the country and abroad. It's a long weekend with single events taking hours to complete all necessary races, giving athletes plenty of time to prepare and anxious wait for their turn on the track. However, it provides incredible performances and times with an outstanding field of athletes, and the CUI track & field team provided their share of impressive marks.
Maddie Jahshan highlighted the weekend with an extraordinary performance in the 10,000m event, setting the new school record and earning a provisional national mark. The senior distance runner broke the record by almost 40 seconds and took 5th in the event against a field of strong competitors. Jahshan's time of 35:15.38 earns her a spot in CUI track & field history, and she currently ranks as one of the best in the event so far this season in NCAA DII.
Porshe Eismann had an outstanding meet, securing two personal bests in the 800m and 1500m events. In the 800m, Eismann finished 19th overall in a field of over 140 runners, crossing the line with a time of 2:12.09, a provisional national mark in the event.
In the 5K, Jori Paradis earned herself a national Provo mark, running a flat 17:00 race, taking 9th in her heat. This was a personal best for her in the 5000m race and a top mark in the event for the program this year.Â
Graduate student Sarah Fajer improved her national Provo mark in the shot put with a throw of 14.30m. This is 19 centimeters better than her best mark recorded at last year's Bryan Clay Invite, and she still ranks as one of the tops in the west region.
Freshman Noah Plaza continues to impress and improve each race as he earns two personal bests over the weekend. The first PR was in the 5K with a time of 14:48, improving his record by 8 seconds. His second personal best came from the 1500m race, where Plaza marked a 3:55, only six seconds shy of a national Provo mark.Â
