IRVINE, Calif. - After a great weekend at home for the Concordia University Irvine track & field team, their next meet was only a quick trip down the road to UCI. The green and gold participated in the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic at the Anteater Stadium, competing against a stacked field of DI and fellow DII competitors.
Dylan Fox was a standout for the Golden Eagles, breaking his school record recently set last weekend at Team 4 Titus & Ely in the long jump! His new record is now set at 7.35m, placing him 15th in the nation for the event. His significant record-setting jump earned him the win in the event, beating two other Southern Utah jumpers by a single centimeter.
On the women's side, a standout performance was recorded by
Porshe Eismann in the 800m run, taking home the top podium spot and a new personal best. Eismann ran a 2:12.35, which is only .12 shy of the provisional national mark, but impressively winning the event against an entire field of DI and DII runners.
Sophomore
Ryan Santana has shown outstanding improvements in his throwing events, finding his way into the finals of the shot put event and earning a new personal best of 14.43m.
Avery Maurinique had an impressive day in the 100m hurdles and 200m events. Recording a 15.39 in the 100m hurdles event and a time of 26.57 in the 200m race.
It was an impressive day for
Karyn Best, who recorded a strong mark in the 400m hurdles at 1:05.59. She also had a great race in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.88.
In the 5000m event,
Jori Paradis and
Maddie Jahshan made big statements in their races, taking second and third against 31 other runners. Paradis ran a 17:44.60, and teammate Jahshan clocked in at 17:48.79, finishing with a new personal best.
Audrey Barcenas and
Alana Hurley both recorded new personal bests at the event.
Angel Aguirre ran a strong 5000m race, setting a new personal best at 14:42.65 and finishing the race in third.
Colin Bervig found himself a new personal best at a time of 15:16.13, with teammate
Owen Beam earning his PR of 15:48.53.
After earning the PacWest Field Athlete of the Week last week,
Khaiya Simpson performed well in the discus with a top mark of 41.26m, finishing sixth in a field of twenty other throwers.
The Golden Eagles will travel south to San Diego next weekend for the Triton Invitational at UCSD on April 8th. Both teams have been outstanding so far this season, with record-breaking performances, and it's still very early into the outdoor season.
