IRVINE, Calif. - A dandy dozen Concordia University Irvine student-athletes were named to the Golden Coast Conference All-Academic Team this July.
This is the second straight summer that at least 10 or more CUI women's water polo players earned this impressive honor.
To qualify for the GCC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must both carry at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher and also have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
This summer the following Golden Eagles made the cut by taking care of business both in the classroom and in the pool:
Jericho Callender
Tatiana Cava
Allyson Corbett
Tamsyn Evezard
Allie Gaetano
Janie Hobbs
Whitney Lee
Andie Perreira
Madison Ravelo
Kim Reidel
Nicole Tormey
Emily Tucker
Nine of the 12 Golden Eagles that were honored were also on
last year's All-Academic Team. Freshmen
Jericho Callender and
Allyson Corbett made the list in their inaugural campaign and were joined by
Janie Hobbs this year.
Earlier this summer,
Madison Ravelo became the
first-ever 5-time ACWPC All-American and was a First Team selection for the third time in her well-decorated career. She finished her Concordia career holding the school records for most goals, recorded assists AND recorded steals and was also named CUI Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the
2023 Senior Legacy Awards Banquet.
Cava and Tormey were also recognized as Honorable Mention All-Americans by the ACWPC (Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches).
