IRVINE, Calif. – For the first time this season, not one but two Concordia University Irvine players were tabbed as WWPA Players of the Week.
Senior
Jacob Stuart garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors and freshman
Lucas Rodriguez was recognized as WWPA Defensive Player of the Week.
Stuart just
set the school record for most career goals with 146. The record-breaking goal came this past Saturday against No. 18 CBU at the Lancer Joust. He passed CUI alum and current Crean Lutheran High School coach Jeff Runyan who scored 145 goals during his two seasons wearing the Green and Gold.
The Yucaipa, Calif. native added a team-high three assists for four points against the nationally ranked Lancers. He scored twice against No. 17 Santa Clara and twice in Concordia's 14-9 win over Toronto.
For the week, he totaled five goals and four recorded steals for the Golden Eagles.
Thrust in to a starting role this semester as a true freshman, Rodriguez responded by providing a boost to the defense. Last week, he racked up four steals and five drawn exclusions over the course of three games. Plus, Rodriguez helped the Golden Eagles limit No. 18 CBU to go just 1-for-10 on the power play and held Toronto 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Servite High School alum also notched his second career hat trick
when he scored three goals in the win over Toronto. This marks the first time Rodriguez has been named WWPA Player of the Week in his college career.
Stuart and Rodriguez will look to make an impact again when they visit Biola for the conference opener on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
