IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia's
Jayden Hernandez earned PCSC Male Swimmer of the Week honors after a sensational opening weekend with his teammates at the PCSC Relays.
The senior stepped up to help the CUI men claim victory as the anchor of the 4x100 free relay in the final race of the meet. In doing so, Hernandez ultimately was part of four winning relays on Saturday and was involved in two of Concordia's four meet records on the day.
In that dramatic 4x100 free relay victory, Hernandez partnered with
Joey Molettieri and freshmen
Logan Irvine and
Legend Storer to power Concordia past The Master's. He motored to the wall in 45.8 seconds as the anchor leg with teammates on both sides cheering around the pool. It was a great atmosphere and a fantastic way to cap off a solid outing that eclipsed a 14-year old record in that event.
Earlier, Hernandez swam a 50.31 leadoff butterfly split, plus a 21.26 leadoff 50 free split and a 49.1 butterfly split in the medley relay. The 4x100 medley also set a new meet record for Concordia. Hernandez teamed with Molettieri, Irvine and
Jack Harris for a historic first place finish in that relay.
The meet was hosted by Concordia at nearby Golden West College in Huntington Beach with familiar green and gold colors featured throughout the location.
