Members of the CUI swim teams competed at the 2nd annual MPFS Open Water Championships Saturday at the Long Beach Marine Stadium. Squaring off against D1, D2, and D3 competition, the Golden Eagles posted some solid results in the 2000m relay event.
The men's A 4x500m relay team of
Mitchell Cullen,
Joey Molettieri,
Tom McCabe and
Hunter May reached the podium finishing third behind squads from CBU and GCU. Mitch put the Eagles into the top-3 with a strong 5:55 split to lead off and the trio of Joey, Tom and Hunter finished it off each with splits under 6:30.
The men's B team of
Andrew Salladin,
Garrin Hatfield,
Aidan Keane and
Lanis Webb rallied to tie for 5th place in the event.
CUI's women swam well in a deeper field of D1 squads. The A relay of
Morgan Warren (6:36),
Naomi Nakaya (6:54),
Elena Argabright (6:34), and
Payton Doak (6:45) remained in the middle of the main pack throughout the race and grabbed 7th place. The B relay of
Aliyah Treadwell,
Bree Anderson,
Makayla Novak and Faith Urquhart moved up on a strong leg from Novak and finished 12th and the C relay made up of CUI freshmen sprinters
Kassidy Harris, Brinkley Halgren,
Julia Smirnoff, and
Brooke McCoy swam to a steady 15th place finish.
The full squad is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Pomona Pitzer for a 10:30 dual meet against the SageHens.
