Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – After dropping both games in the doubleheader on Thursday, the CUI baseball team finished their series against No. 4 Point Loma on Friday. The Golden Eagles split on the day dropping the first game 15-2 and bouncing back with a 5-2 win.
Game 1: CUI 2, PLNU 15
Landry Spitler and
Cameron Slessor laid down two strategically placed bunts to drive in the two Golden Eagle runs.
Luke Glascoe and Spitler went 2-for-4 for two singles each.
Senior
Riley O'Sullivan started on the mound and went 5.2 innings.
Richie Kingsborough,
Ryan O'Toole,
Luka Brancato, and
Dawson Radik came in as relievers to finish the remainder of the game. Brancato made his collegiate debut and recorded two strikeouts.
Game 2: CUI 5, PLNU 2
Brett Finnel was the starting pitcher the second game and had six strikeouts while going 4.2 innings.
Kaj James came in and earned his third win after going 1.1.
Conor Meehan pitched the last inning and earned his fifth save of the season.
Spitler got momentum going for CUI as he hit an RBI single off the pitcher to put one up in the frame. In the next inning
Jordan Bolden hit an RBI single through the left side to double their lead 2-0. The Sea Lions were able to tie the score at two a-piece in the fifth.
Glascoe and
Owen Gott hit an RBI single in the fifth to extend the Golden Eagles lead by two.
Shane Wallace came in to pinch hit and blasted a home run to right center to take a 5-2 lead over Point Loma.
The Golden Eagles will host Fresno Pacific in non-conference series starting Friday Mar. 22 with a 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start time and Saturday Mar. 23 at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
