8 Track and Field Athletes Named USTFCCCA All-Region

IRVINE, Calif.- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the all-region selections for indoor track and field on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles had eight athletes across six events earn spots on the West Region lists. To earn this accolade athletes across the nation must finish the season ranked in the top five of their respective region.

On the women's side five women made the list over three events. Ranked the highest, at number two, was the women's distance medley relay comprised of Porshe Eismann, Maria Sartin, Bethany Schmidt, and Jori Paradis. The crew ran a staggering 11:35.74 at Grand Valley's Big Meet Saturday in February to earn a national provisional mark, and eventually a ticket to nationals. Paradis found herself on the list twice, both in the relay and in an individual event, the 3000m, where she earned the fifth spot for the West. Rounding out the women's rankings was Maddie Jahshan who posted the region's fourth fastest time in the 5000m. All of these times were earned on the same weekend in Allendale, Michigan and they all surpassed the NCAA DII provisional qualifying marks.

For the men, three athletes scratched their names onto the list in three different events. Earning the top mark, and the highest rank for CUI was Dylan Fox who jumped 7.52 meters back in January. That early mark carried him through indoor season and right onto the flight to nationals too. Also in the top-three was a freshman, Trey Vergenz, who managed to snag the second best mark in the west region after a consistent indoor shot-put showing. Finally, Tyler Denes made his way up to a number five ranking in the heptathlon.

A small part of the CUI track and field team is set to compete at Pittsburg State this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The women's DMR competes Friday, March 8th as well as Dylan Fox in the long jump. The rest of the team will head to Fullerton on Friday and Saturday to continue their outdoor seasons at the Ben Brown Invitational.
