CUI Tennis Teams Settle For Fourth Place

Golden Eagles Eagerly Await Regional Tourney Announcements In Coming Days

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Men's 3rd Place Match: Biola 4, CUI 3

The men faced Biola and were eager to start strong. They did just that by claiming the doubles point thanks to solid efforts by Spencer Cinco and Lemiel Tairahoy at the No. 2 spot. Moments after Mario Aleksic and Adam Kartzinel won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles, the tandom of Cinco and Tairahoy lifted CUI to a 1-0 lead by securing a 6-3 win.

Newcomer Mattis Le Montagner sprang in to action at No. 1 singles and coerced a point for the Golden Eagles in there sets. He won the first set 6-2, lost 6-2 and then rebounded with a valiant effort to top Nico Ramirez 6-3 in the third.

Spencer Cinco was also locked in at his No. 4 singles spot as well. He battled back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. That was big because by that time, Biola had already won three points at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.

It came down to the No. 3 singles and Adrian Solorzano outlasted Max Renz in a long battle 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.

Women's 3rd Place Match: Point Loma 4, CUI 1

On the women's side, the Third Team All-Conference duo of Emilie Lugon-Moulin and Bryn Johnson won at the No. 2 doubles spot against Point Loma. However, the Sea Lions secured the opening point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

First Team All-Conference selection Sophie Rachor ratcheted it up a notch in the No. 1 singles match. She cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory to try and give her team a boost.

PLNU was on a mission though, and after winning at the No. 5 singles position, the Sea Lions clinched when they locked up the No. 4 and No. 3 slots in that order.

In the coming weeks, the NCAA DII Regional selections will be announced and Concordia is expected to get strong consideration for both the men's and women's brackets.

Four teams from the PacWest make the regional and if both CUI squads are invited, this would mark the third time in four years that Concordia will be represented in tennis at that level.
