Bird Fight Goes Five Sets

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University women's volleyball team continued with PacWest play as they competed against Fresno Pacific on Saturday.
 
CUI jumped out with a 2-0 lead with scores 25-16 and 25-20 but FPU came back fighting for the remainder of the match. The Sunbirds came back to win the next three sets 26-24, 25-17, and 15-8.

Middle Caitlin Jarrell was dominant as she led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills and five blocks with two solo. Delaney Gregg added four kills and two blocks. Jadyn Orava and Kennedy Farley contributed with nine and seven kills with a combined nine digs from the back row. Ally Scheidle had six kills while scooping up eight digs.

It was a career-high game for sophomore Kayden Croy as she had 10 kills and 16 digs throughout the match. Kawehi Chang dished out 37 assists and 14 digs. The setter reached a career-high of five aces which puts another mark on the record book in five sets. Delaney Risse wore the libero jersey and had 14 digs while defensive specialist Celia Dowell had six.

Aces were hot for the Green and Gold as they had a combined total of 13 during the five set match which marks a team high on the 2024 season. Chang led CUI with five aces while four other Golden Eagles contributed with at least one. Risse had three, Dowell and Orava had two, and middle Gregg had one.

The Golden Eagles will travel down the coast as they take on defending conference champion Point Loma on Thursday Sept. 26 with a 6 p.m. start time. It's a rematch of this past Thursday's conference opener in Irvine.
