Monterey Park, Calif. - The men's and women's teams got off to a steady start at the PCSC Championships at a rainy East Los Angeles College. The meet started with a bang as three of four women reached the finals (top-24 finishes) and six of eight men did the same. Freshman
Jackson Rosol led the way with the lone CUI podium finish of the night earning a 3rd place in the 200 IM. His time of 1:51.77 is a personal best (PB) and is the 7th fastest time in CUI history. The men rewrote the history book in this one as junior Tommy Kelly (1:52.39, 6th), freshman
Trai Xiong (1:52.62, 10th), and senior
Hunter May (1:52.97, 11th), posted the 8th, 9th and 10th fastest times in CUI history in this event.
For the women, sophomore
Carissa Ward powered a 2:07.57p for an A-final 8th place finish and the 3rd fastest time in school history in the same event. Co-captains
Aubrie Carver (2:09.87, 13th) and
Ellie Hardey 2:10.21p, 15th) swam solid efforts in the B final.
The 1000 free saw
Alice Stainer earned a 10th place finish with a 10:38.59, the 5th fastest in CUI history.
Elena Argabright (10:48.65, 19th),
Payton Doak (10:49.55, 21st), and
Bree Anderson (111:01.27, 23rd) all scored for the Golden Eagles
The men were powered by
Sam Diamond's 9:50.45. This earned 8th place in the event and was the 7th fastest time in CUI history.
Mitchell Cullen (9:58.96) was 13th,
Lanis Webb (10.02.13) was 14th,
Aidan Keane (10:05.84) was 16th and
Tom McCabe (1:07.41) was 17th. The latter four all swam to season best times.
Alex Leland rocked a 23.84 in the 50 free winning her C-final. Teammate
Noelle Landon went her second PB of the day in finishing 20th (24.35). Grabbing 13th with a better finals swim was
Rachel Maki (24.11, 13th).
The men saw
Jayden Hernandez grab 7th (20.70p),
Legend Storer (21.35p) was 15th
Logan Irvine (21.46p) was 19th and
Jonathan Dose (21.54) was 21st. The latter three men each moved up one place from the prelims, earning an additional six valuable points for CUI.
The evening wrapped up with the 800 free relay. The women's quartet of
Alice Stainer,
Payton Doak,
Hannah Edwards, and
Rachel Maki went CUI's fastest time since 2020 in finishing 7th as Rachel anchored in a solid 1:55.0. The men grabbed a 5th place finish with a very steady group of splits from
Tom McCabe, Tommy Kelly,
Hunter May and
Joey Molettieri. Their time would have won this event last year!
The Golden Eagles will continue to compete in the PCSC Championships tomorrow, February 13th and will conclude on February 15th.
