Monterey Park, Calif. - The men's and women's swim teams continue to put up strong results at the PCSC Conference Championships. Of the 42 total races competed at prelims Friday, CUI put 29 athletes into the evening finals. They earned a total of 20 personal best times from those 42 races and had another 11 season best performances.
Topping the hit parade was the men's 200 medley relay. Victorious in last night's 400 medley relay, the same tandem of
Logan Irvine,
Jack Harris,
Jayden Hernandez and
Joey Molettieri nearly topped #1 seed FPU falling by 1/2 a second. The 1:31.12 final time is the 3rd fastest in CUI history as Joey anchored in a blistering 20.2. The women had a unique finish to their event. The "A" relay of
Aubrie Carver,
Alex Leland,
Naomi Nakaya and
Rachel Maki finished 6th overall in a 1:46.88 time. The "B" relay of
Noelle Landon,
Brinkley Hallgren,
Aranza Martha and
Ruby McCullough actually swam faster, stopping the clock at 1:46.16. CUI had the 6th and 5th fastest swims in the event, though only "A" relays score. This season, the CUI women have posted the 3rd, 4th and 6th fastest relays in school history. This particular "B" relay is now #6!
Alice Stainer was 6th in the 500 free and
Elena Argabright went a personal best (PB) of 5:11.25 to grab 22nd.
Joey Molettieri ripped the 3rd fastest 500 in school history getting a PB of 4:34.58 in prelims. Mitch Cullen (4:42.58) was 13th,
Sam Diamond (4:42.35p) was 14th and
Tom McCabe rallied in the final to take 18th in 4:46.92.
CUI showed tremendous depth in the 100 backstroke event.
Carissa Ward (57.34, 8th),
Noelle Landon (57.45, 9th),
Aubrie Carver (58.29, 12th), and
Bree Anderson (1:00.15p, 22nd) all scored for CUI. Add in the exhibition 57.93 PR from
Brooke McCoy and this CUI roster has the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th fastest backstrokers in CUI history with Aubrie's 57.27 from 2024 leading the way. The men saw Tommy Kelly rocket to a C-final win in 51.12 (8th all time),
Aidan Keane finished 12th (51.56p),
Jackson Rosol 14th, (51.94) and
Lanis Webb 15th (51.66p). Carissa, Noelle, Brooke and all men's swims were personal best times!
Brinkley Hallgren swam to a PB in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.79) good for 4th in the meet and 4th all-time.
Alex Leland finished 13th (1:05.80p),
Ellie Hardey was 19th (1:07.95) and
Julia Smirnoff was 20th (1:07.72 PB).
Jack Harris was runner up in his final 100 breaststroke pushing a PB of 56.39, 7th in school history.
Trai Xiong won the B-final in a PB of 57.06,
Legend Storer was 12th (58.02),
Trevor Dixon was 15th (57.79p),
Jacob VanRensburg was 16th (58.20p) and
Garrison Veron was 19th (59.03p).
The final individual swim event on day 3 was the 200 butterfly and
Naomi Nakaya was electric posting a personal best 2:06.01p to get 5th overall and 3rd all-time.
Jayden Hernandez was 8th for the men (1:53.29, 7th all-time),
Logan Irvine was 12th in a 1:53.73 (9th all-time) and
Hunter May was faster in finals, swimming a 1:55.73 for 1tth place.
In the women's 1-meter diving prelims, freshman
Chloe Dobie rallied in the final round on her 11th dive to jump into second place. Finals will be Friday at 2:30pm.
The final prelims session begins at 9:30am and finals at 5:00pm. The PCSC Senior Recognition event is set for 4:00pm on deck.
