Golden Eagles Clash With No. 10 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – After playing against No. 5 UC Irvine last week the CUI men's volleyball team play a two game stanza against No. 10 ranked UC San Diego starting on the road. The Golden Eagles traveled down the coast but the UCSD took control of the match and won in three sets with scores 25-20, 25-16, and 25- 23.
 
Leading the offensive charge was Myles Henderson tallied six kills on 18 attempts for a .278 hitting percentage while also adding a service ace and two digs. His steady presence on the attack helped set the tone throughout the match.
 
Ties Cornelissen delivered one of the most efficient offensive performances of the night posting five kills on 11 swings with an impressive .364 hitting percentage. Wesley Newton and Logan Whitaker came into the game and had a combined five kills.
 
Freshman Matt Fisher orchestrated the offense dishing out 13 assists to keep the attack balanced and unpredictable. Fisher also added three digs and a block assist to contribute defensively. Aidan Case came into the match and dished out six assists in a versatile performance
 
Joseph Nunez led the defense with six digs and handled serve receive responsibilities effectively. Kai Vogel contributed five digs while Henderson and Christian Galoppo added two digs each to anchor the back row.
 
At the net the team saw solid blocking contributions from multiple players. Henderson had the lone solo block while Habermas had a team high of four block assists. Galoppo, Case, and Fisher each recorded block assists. The collective front-row effort helped disrupt the Tritons offensive rhythm.
 
Serving pressure also played a key role. Henderson, Habermas, Vogel, and Paul Schulteis each recorded service aces helping generate momentum at critical points.
 
The Golden Eagles will host No. 10 UC San Diego on Thursday Feb. 12 with a 7 p.m. start time before an MPSF match-up against Stanford Friday Feb. 20.
