CARSON, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team kicked off their last non-conference series on the road against Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday. The Toros took control of the game and finished 10-1.
Matthew Kaiser started on the mound for CUI and went 5.2 innings giving up seven hits and five earned runs while striking out an impressive seven batters.
Nathan Hunter entered in relief facing four batters.
Evan Moyer followed with 1.1 innings allowing three hits and recording a strikeout while facing seven hitters. Senior
Dominic Nunes closed the game with an efficient final inning tossing a scoreless frame without allowing a hit issuing two walks and striking out one.
Landry Spitler led CUI with a 3-for-4 performance accounting for three of the Golden Eagles hits.
Dylan Knowles followed with a 2-for-4 day at the plate while
Isaiah Walz and
Jordan Bolden each contributed a hit.
Makamae Du Pont went scored the one run and
Owen Gott came in and delivered a pinch-hit single for the Green and Gold.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the road for a single game in Carson, Calif. against Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday Feb. 6 before coming back to the Golden Eagles Field. CUI will finish the series against CSUDH Saturday Feb. 7 with 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. times.
