IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine outside hitter Emma Wegleitner was recognized Monday as the PacWest Player of the Week after helping the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles earn a pair of sweeps up in Northern California.

CUI also rose from No. 25 to No. 22 in the new AVCA DII National Top 25 poll rankings. It's the first time CUI women's volleyball has been nationally ranked in back-to-back weeks since 2017.

The Golden Eagles closed out September with a 6-0 conference record and are tied for first place with Biola in the league standings.

Wegleitner hit a resounding .508 this week in two matches while averaging a whopping 5.5 kills/set and 3.5 digs/set. The Boerne, Texas native led all players on the court in kills in both of Concordia's games, totaling 13 kills against Jessup while hitting .444 with eight digs and two blocks.

Wegleitner was even better against Dominican with an eye-popping 20 kills, 13 digs and two service aces. During Saturday's take down of the Penguins, she hit a sizzling .563 in those three sets.

Last season, the redshirt junior was the only Golden Eagle to rack up more than 200 kills and 200 digs. She is on pace to do so again in her second season wearing the Green and Gold.

CUI enters this week with a 9-1 record in September and the only loss came to Fresno Pacific who has been ranked No. 5 and No. 4 in the nation in the past two AVCA DII polls. The Golden Eagles are 12-2 overall as they look ahead to two more matches this week.

Next up for Concordia is a home date with Cal State Los Angeles this Wednesday, Sept 30 at 5 p.m. PT. It should prove to be an exciting non-conference test for both squads before they jump back in to the heart of conference play.

CUI then visits Westmont for its first repeat match in the PacWest Conference schedule on Friday, Oct. 2 in Santa Barbara.
