Raquel Ferreira was the first NAIA Player of the Year from the women’s volleyball program and helped shape them into the national powerhouse they are today.  She played for the Eagles in 2004 and 2006 after coming from Minas Geras, Brazil and Barton Community College (KS).  She graduated from Concordia in 2007 with a B.A. in exercise sport science.  In 2004 she was selected All-GSAC, NAIA All-Region II, a First Team NAIA All-American, GSAC Player of the Year, NAIA All-Tournament, NAIA Tournament MVP, and the NAIA Player of the Year as the Eagles finished Runner-Up at the NAIA National Championship, Concordia’s first appearance at the NAIA National Championship and first Finals appearance.  In 2006 she was a GSAC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete as Concordia advanced to the NAIA Semifinals and Ferreira was again selected NAIA All-Tournament.  Ferreira remains the only player in program history to be selected NAIA Tournament MVP. 

She holds the school record for kills in a season with 677 in 2004.  She is sixth in single-season hitting percentage at .363 in 2004 and second in digs with 526 in 2004.  On the career ranks she is fourth in hitting percentage at .354.  Prior to 2004, Concordia had seven winning seasons with no NAIA National Championship appearances.  In Ferreira’s two seasons, Concordia went 65-11 with a NAIA National Championship Final and Semifinal appearance.  3724

After Graduation

Ferreira has competed in Professional Beach Volleyball since 2009, when she was named AVP Rookie of the Year.  She has collected 25 top-10 finishes and played in the United States, Brazil, and Europe.  Ferreira spends her off seasons in St. Petersburg, FL and visits family in Brazil, in addition to traveling.  Ferreira runs her own beach volleyball academy called Bevolley Academy in St. Petersburg.
