The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles won their 27-straight home match in a thrilling 3-2 win over Springfield (MA).
By the Numbers: Andrew Hammer had a huge night with 17 kills, and Devin Ross added 14 in support hitting .312. Taylor Falduti had 10 kills in the middle. Cristian Rodriguez added 35 assists and 11 digs. Falduti had seven blocks and Joseph Pillon had eight kills and six blocks.
The Difference: The Eagles slightly outhit the Pride, .296 to .270. They also outblocked SC 12-10.5.
Critical Plays: Taylor Falduti had two early kills and CUI led 6-1 in set one. The Pride got their footing and came back, 10-9. An ace from Joseph Pillon and Andrew Hammer put the Eagles up 21-18. The Eagles took it 25-21. Hunter Howell grabbed a kill and a couple blocks early in set two as CUI led 8-6. The Pride hung within two the majority of the set, and closed 20-19. SC tied it at 21, but touch from Devin Ross put the Eagles back up one. The Pride took it from there and won 25-23. The Eagles started hot again in set three, and extended it to 18-14. SC again finished better and took the set 25-23. The Eagles led early again in set four, let the lead go, but came back in dramatic fashion, 25-23. Early aces from Pillon and Ross put CUI ahead 4-2 in set five. Pillon blocked one to keep CUI ahead 13-11, but SC tied at 13.
What it Means: Concordia improved to 5-1 and avoided the home loss.
