The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles fell to UC Santa Barbara on the road in four sets on Wednesday night.
By the Numbers: Joseph Pillon led CUI with 13 kills, hitting .292, and Ryan Anselmo hit .318 with 12 kills. Hunter Howell had five blocks and Cristian Rodriguez added 31 assists and four blocks.
The Difference: Even though CUI won in blocks, 9.5-5, UCSB hit .407 and had 26 digs. UCSB won in sideout percentage in commanding fashion in the last three sets.
Critical Plays: CUI raced to a 6-2 lead in set one with blocks from Howell and Pillon, and a kill from Howell. UCSB came back to tie at 13, but an ace from Andrew Hammer put CUI back up 17-15. A block from Rodriguez and Howell ended the set, 25-21 CUI. UCSB came back to dominate set two, going up 17-9 and winning 25-13. CUI hung tough in set three and a kill from Pillon made it 11-10. UCSB went on a run and went up 23-16, and took it 25-18. UCSB cruised 25-12 in set four.
What it Means:Â CUI falls to 10-3 on the year.
