IRVINE, Calif.- The CUI women's soccer team dominated the All-PacWest awards this year with eight girls being selected throughout the three teams.
First Team All PacWest: Jadenn Carrillo,
Marianna Maldonado, and
Isabella Angotti-Jones.
In addition to making First Team All-PacWest, Carrillo was also named PacWest Freshman of the Year. She was the leading goal scorer for the Eagles with 11 goals and six game winners. Her shot on goal percentage was 54% and she ended the year with 37 shots on goal. Carrillo came in and started every game and made a huge impact on this team as a freshman. Maldonado was the second leading scorer for the Eagles as she finished strong at the end of the season scoring four goals combined in the last three games. She ended with seven goals on the season shooting 60% from 12 shots on goal. Maldonado had been an impact all season and really stepped up the last few games. Angotti-Jones was an extraordinary defender this year who continuously helped to protect the goal. She earned two assists this year and took five shots on goal. Her hustle and willingness to protect the Eagles goal helped CUI earn five shutouts this year.
Second Team All PacWest: Kara Gilchrist and
Molly Melanson.
Both Gilchrist and Melanson were strong leaders on the field who utilized their communication skills to keep the team on the same page. Both players constantly worked to keep the ball in the Eagles offensive zone. Gilchrist scored one goal and had two assists. Melanson ended the season with two goals and one assist as one of the main defensive line players. Melanson tracked down every loose ball that was on her side and would not stop until she got the ball away from the Eagles goal. Her grit and effort was hard not to notice as she brought it every game.
Third Team All PacWest: Cienah Reed,
Danni Barton, and
Kaelyn Whitcomb.
Reed earned one goal and five assists this year as her season was cut short due to an injury.  Reed made her way into the third spot in the record books for individual career assists. She only needs four more to secure the number one spot. Barton was another player on the defensive line that proved to be exceptional this year. Her intensity and passion for the game helped the Eagles to gain momentum and protect the goal. She ended the season with three assists and was able to take seven shots on goal. Whitcomb was the Eagles main goalkeeper and had 59 saves this season. She had a saving percentage of 75% and was a big factor for this team's success this year.
"We are really happy for the 8 players who have been recognized," said Head Coach
Chris Gould. "All of them have had such remarkable seasons. This program is built on bringing the best out of ourselves. These individuals were recognized for that. We have a number of others who did the same which put these players in positions for success."
