Nunes Named PacWest Pitcher Of The Week For Second Straight Week

IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia University Irvine pitcher Callie Nunes posted her second straight no-hitter and struck out a season-best 12 batters in CUI's 4-0 victory over Adelphi this past Tuesday.

The sophomore from Modesto, Calif. also earned five more victories (including one in relief) to finish the week 6-0 with three complete game shutouts, 43 strikeouts and a miniscule 0.30 ERA over 30 innings of work.

For her amazing performances over the last seven days, Nunes was named PacWest Player of the Week for the second straight time.

During those 30 innings on the mound, Nunes only allowed one run and 11 total hits.  Nunes was also credited with all four wins in doubleheaders against PacWest rivals Biola and APU to help No. 9 CUI extend its winning streak to 11.

For the season, Nunes is now 8-1 overall with two no-hitters, four complete game shutouts and an 0.86 ERA.

She has pitched two no-hitters this season and owns four to her name over her entire college career.

The Eagles continue their 12-game road trip at Cal State East Bay on Wednesday, Mar. 6 with a doubleheader starting at noon. Those two games were postponed after originally being scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 and will now be played on the artificial turf at Ohlone College in Fremont. CUI's next home game will be on Thursday, Mar. 14 against HPU.
