IRVINE, Calif. - After clinching the league title in the final week of the regular season, a pair of Concordia freshmen won PacWest Conference awards.
Erika Morris, Concordia's two-way star, had another dominant weekend for the Eagles and was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week, while
Sydney Sprinkle continued her hot hitting and earned her third consecutive PacWest Freshman of the Week award.
Morris went 2-0 in the circle for the Eagles, collecting a pair of wins, and guiding CUI into the postseason with a 15 game winning streak. In 13 innings, she allowed just one earned run, seven hits, and one walk. Her ERA for the week was just 0.46, her WHIP was a miniscule 0.62, and opponents hit just .170 against her.
Morris has proven throughout the season, however, that her contributions aren't only limited to her days in the circle. When not pitching, she is a regular in the Eagles' lineup and is nearly as strong at the plate as she is as a pitcher. In three games last week, Morris hit .272 at the plate and doubled twice.
While Morris was able to show her talent on the rubber and at the dish, fellow freshman
Sydney Sprinkle's red hot bat continues to drive the Eagles' offense. Sprinkle, the three-time defending PacWest Freshman of the Week, had another stellar week, something that has become commonplace for the Eagles.
In four games, Sprinkle hit .538, scored three runs, drove in another, and was the catalyst for the Eagles' offense. Her on base percentage for the week was a staggering .615, she slugged .615, and had an OPS of 1.230.
After CUI clinched its second straight PacWest Championship with a Sweep of Biola, Morris and Sprinkle will look to continue their fine play when the No. 10 Eagles compete in the NCAA Division II Regionals. Time, date, and location TBD.
