CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's and women's track and field teams continued their indoor season with an impressive showing at the Rossi Relays this past weekend held in Claremont, California.
Â
"Our first outdoor meet was successful for many of the sprinters and hurdlers," said CUI assistant coach
Benjamin Hinckfoot. "The highlight of the meet was the women's 4x100m relay that ran a fast time to begin the season and won the event. That was the first time that relay team had the opportunity to run together and I am excited to see how they progress and continue to run for each other. I was also proud of the way
Wilson McLean and
Samantha Gomez competed in the 400m hurdle races."Â
Â
The women's squad took second place in the event behind strong showings from their Distance Medley Relay team and their 4x100m relay team, who both won their respective races.
Â
"The women's DMR came together by all running solid races and a few females having extraordinary personal record races, like Maddie Herrera who PR'd by eight seconds in the mile part of the relay," said CUI assistant coach
Jordan Tuin.
Â
"Having two relays get first place finishes for CUI was very exciting on Saturday," added Tuin. "The team atmosphere is a lot more exciting when the women start to realize that working together creates much better results."
Â
Among other impressive showings for the Eagles,
Katie Fajer hit a double personal record in the throws with more to come as the season progresses, while the women's distance runners placed six individuals at 11:05 or under in the 3000m run.
Â
Santa Monica High School alum
Halimat Adeyemi continues to climb in the long jump.
Â
On the men's side,
Wilson McLean ran a stellar opening 400m hurdle race.
Â
Not to be outdone,
Ryan Woodard opened the season with a high mark in the javelin, while
Ryan Ross and
Dominic Evans opened up in the 100m dash with impressive times.
