PacWest Recognizes Nunes After Multiple Complete Game Shutouts

IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia University Irvine junior pitcher Callie Nunes was recognized as PacWest Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing two complete game shutouts this past week for the Eagles.

The Modesto, Calif. native went 3-0 in her previous four outings with two complete game shutouts and entered Monday a PacWest-best 6-0 on the season. In four appearances, she struck out 23 batters in 19.2 innings and only allowed 10 hits and one earned run (which came in relief).

On Friday, she tossed a complete game five-hit shutout against HPU before blanking Chaminade with a complete game two-hitter on Sunday.

This is the third time this season Nunes has been named the league's PacWest Pitcher of the Week and the 11th time in her illustrious college career. She won that weekly award three times last year as a sophomore and also an eye-popping five times as a true freshman.

Nunes entered Monday's games against Chaminade with a 1.02 ERA this year. The Ceres High School alum also starts this week with 44 career complete games which ranks fifth all-time in CUI softball history.
