IRVINE, Calif. - As a freshman, left-hander Rae Flores had a number of good appearances in the circle. She earned her first PacWest conference achievement, PacWest Freshman of the Week, after her first win in the circle over Saint Martin's where she allowed only one hit with four strikeouts in five innings. She also threw her first complete shutout at home over Notre Dame de Namur in a team victory of 7-0.
Â
As a sophomore she is off to a great start with three game appearances. Two of the three appearances were starts where she got awarded the win. Her first start was against No. 10 Oklahoma Christian where she pitched four innings, struck out four batters, and only gave up two hits and one run.
Â
Flores was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week after pitching her first complete game of the season where CUI beat Biola 6-0. She controlled the plate, shutting out BU for seven innings. Flores relentlessly attacked the zone accumulating 15 groundouts. She also had two strikeouts and she only allowed five singles and three walks. Flores' win over Biola improved her record to 2-0 and the team's record to 6-2.
"I felt confident pitching against Biola," said Flores. "After seeing them play twice before, I felt like I knew what I needed to do in order to succeed. As the game continued, my team did a great job scoring runs and backing me up on defense throughout the game which helped me feel confident as I pitched to their lineup."
Â
"As the season continues, I am excited to see my team compete," added Flores. "We are going to be playing the same teams several times, and we will truly need everyone in order to win. I'm excited to see us get better every time we step on the field, whether it is on defense, offense, or cheering our teammates on in the dugout!"
Â
The No. 9 Concordia Eagles will travel to Azusa, Calif. on Mar. 19 to play in their next conference game against Azusa Pacific at 4 and 6 p.m.
