Thomas & Benjamin Tabbed As PCSC Swimmers of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Two Concordia University Irvine Eagles have been named PCSC Swimmer of the Week after they both qualified for NCAA "B" qualifying times over the past few days.

Juniors Kyle Benjamin and Katelyn Thomas were recognized by the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference for their outstanding performances in the pool.

But if you know either of them and how hard they work at their craft, you shouldn't be surprised.

Thomas recently broke the school record in the 100 backstroke. She currently owns the 5th-fastest time for that event in NCAA DII this year (54.46 seconds).

"It was a stunning swim," said CUI head coach Bert Bergen. "We were all shocked at the power and ease that she showed."

Thomas also owns the fastest time in the PCSC in the 50 butterfly (25.77). In the 50 free, her time of 23.70 seconds ranks in the top 20 nationally and is also an NCAA "B" qualifying time.

Her and Benjamin have proven to be important contributors to the Eagles since they first stepped foot on campus and first started making waves in the pool.

This is the second time this season actually that Benjamin has been selected for this weekly PCSC honor and the fifth time in his career.

His performances against Cal Lutheran last Saturday in the 400 IM (3:58.09) and 500 freestyle (4:31.84) are also both NCAA B qualifying times.

The Eagles return to action on Friday, March 26 against Redlands.
