IRVINE, Calif.- The No. 8 Concordia University Irvine softball team had an exciting weekend with a couple of outstanding performances. One of the standouts was Rylie Rohr who was also selected to be this week's PacWest Freshman of the Week.

Rohr is a true freshman who came from Yucca Valley High School. She has started for the Eagles at shortstop in all 19 games. In those 19 games she has collected 10 hits, 10 walks, seven RBIs, and scored nine times. Out of the her 10 hits she has had two doubles, one triple and two homeruns.

On Saturday Rohr had a crucial at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning against Biola. She cranked a solo-shot homerun over the center field fence to tie the game 2-2. Her at bat sparked the CUI offense, allowing her team to stay in the game and continue the inning.

"Rylie had a big swing on Saturday that really changed the game," stated Head Coach and Athletic Director Crystal Rosenthal. "I'm proud of her ability to respond to being challenged and look forward to her continued growth."

When Rohr was asked about how being a member of the softball team has made her develop as an athlete she responded thoughtfully.

"Being a member of Concordia softball has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone into a place I have never reached before as an athlete," responded Rohr. "Coming into this program, I played small and safe, but now I fly around the field freely where I have confidence in myself, as well as in all of my teammates. Throughout the season, every practice and each game has challenged me in a new way and provided me with an opportunity to grow."

The softball team plays next on April 6th at 4 and 6 p.m. against Azusa Pacific.
