No. 12 Eagles Have Three PacWest Players of the Week

Callie Nunes, McKinsey Thorpe, and Rylie Rohr Secure Honors

IRVINE, Calif.- The No.12 Concordia University Irvine softball team has not one, but three PacWest players of the week.

The Eagles sweeped Azusa Pacific in their last four game series of conference play to clinch the PacWest Southern California Pod title. The Green and Gold mercied APU in both games of Friday's doubleheader at Eagles field, which also happened to be Senior Day. Saturday, CUI managed to take the final two games that were closely battled.

"Total team effort this weekend and that's reflected in this week's awards," stated head coach and athletic director Crystal Rosenthal. "I am proud of these three and of my whole team. We look forward to moving on."

Callie Nunes: PacWest Pitcher of the Week

Senior Callie Nunes threw a complete game one-hit shutout in a six inning win over APU on Senior day. On Saturday, she got a save in the clinching win that allowed the Eagles to secure the PacWest SoCal Pod, which is her tenth career save. In the 12 innings she tossed this weekend she allowed only one earned run, seven hits, and had five strikeouts with only three walks and two batters that were hit by a pitch.

Nunes has an ERA of 1.69 and is the CUI program record-holder with over 700 strikeouts.

McKinsey Thorpe: PacWest Player of the Week

Senior McKinsey Thorpe had a phenomenal weekend at the plate. On Senior Day she had a total of five hits and three RBI. In Saturday's win she had the go-ahead RBI single that allowed CUI to score in their 1-0 win over APU. Thorpe ended the week 6-for-13 in the batter's box with a double, four RBI, two walks, and two steals. Thorpe also has the team's best batting average of .373.
