MALIBU, Calif. - The CUI Golden Eagles month of racing continued at the Rodianoff Invitational at Pepperdine on Saturday. CUI rolled in and grabbed 13 victories, seven of them 1-2 sweeps in the D2 division. In addition to many new season best times, quite a few of the results are now atop the PCSC rankings in the early season, while two more moved into the NCAA D2 top-20.
The men swept all nine contested events on the day in what was a tri-meet with The Master's University and Cal Lutheran in attendance. CUI swept the podium in four events, and finished #1-4 in two of those.
Most impressive on the day were
Christopher Haygood (1sts, 50 free, 200 free, medley relay, free relay),
Hunter May (4:14 400 IM),
Jack Harris (2:11.48 200 breast),
Jayden Hernandez (50.71 100 butterfly), and the men's 4x100 free relay (Haygood, Hernandez, John Warriner,
Landon McIntire) who's 3:10.81 is a 3-second improvement over last week, the top time in the PCSC and now the 14th fastest time in NCAA D2. Hernandez 100 fly is the 19th fastest time nationally in that event.
The women did battle with DI foes Pepperdine, USD, LMU and PCSC top-3 team APU among others and are getting points and solid efforts from a lot of different women. The steady returners including
Georgia Caraway (1st 100 butterfly, 2nd 100 backstroke),
Hailey Garcia (1st 50 free, 2nd 100 butterfly) are getting support from talented newcomers like Aubriella Carver (1st 100 backstroke), Alexandra Leland (2nd 200 breast, 4th 50 free) and
Nicole Tormey (3rd 50 free, 4th 200 free). The victorious 4x50 medley (Georgia, Alex,
Aranza Martha, Hailey) and the 4x100 free relays (Aranza, Nicole, Alex, Hailey) each posted season best times for the Golden Eagles.
