EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Golden Eagle women set the tone on day two of the Collegiate Winter Invitational with TWO NCAA "B" qualifying times, a school record and 9 swims into the CUI All-Time Top-10. The men's roster flexed their depth with multiple scorers in all five individual events and two 800 free relays finished in the top-8 overall.
Ryan Burke and
Alice Stainer put on an amazing show. Ryan moved from 4th to 2nd in her 100 butterfly race hitting the pad at a stunning 55.81. That is a new personal best time, breaks the school record by 3/10ths, and most impressively is her first ever NCAA "B" qualifying time. In the women's 200 free, freshman
Alice Stainer, who'd already posted a PR and NCAA "B" time in prelims, turned in a more aggressive race in finals to drop a full second and get down to 1:51.82. That is now the 2nd fastest time in CUI history and gets her closer to a bid to NCAA's in March.
CUI demonstrated a show of force in the 100 fly as
Georgia Caraway (6th, 59.20),
Hailey Garcia (7th, 57.55),
Aranza Martha (19th, 58.45) and
Breckynn Willis (21st, 59.02) each posted personal or season best times in the event. Behind Ryan at #1, Georgia is now 6th in CUI history, Hailey is 7th, Aranza is 10th and Breckynn is 12th...all on the same roster!
In the women's 100 breast, freshman
Alex Leland dropped a 1:05.00 for a new CUI PR and the #3 swim in school history. From the "C" final,
Isabella Garritano in her final meet as a Golden Eagle, dominated her race to post a 1:06.39 and grab a new PR and the #5 swim in school history and finishing right behind her was
Ellie Hardey who went a 1:08.14. Ellie owns the 4th fastest time in school history!
On the men's side,
Jayden Hernandez led a stable of solid 100 flyers as he went a PR, 49.36, the fastest time in the PCSC and #4 all-time at CUI.
Isaiah Philips (51.53, season best) and
Khang Cao (53.25) both broke through for CUI.
Jack Harris exploded in the final of the 100 breast as he finished 2nd in a season best 57.46. Behind him,
Trevor Dixon (59.40, 8th),
Landon McIntire (1:01.02)
Garrison Veron (1:00.85) and
Jerald Bermudez (1:01.82) each put up points for the Golden Eagles.
Hunter May dropped 14 seconds from his prelims swim in the grueling 400 IM to win the consol heat in a season best 4:12.23,
Aubrie Carver went a 59.03 PR in the 100 back, putting her 5th overall in CUI history, Georgia was right behind in 59.35p and
Victoria Schachle dropped her CUI best time (1:00.74p). The men's 100 back saw
Lanis Webb and
Michael Ashton battle to the wire with 53.24-53.34 swims and
Nash Baker went a season best, 55.76, a 1/2 second drop from his prelims swim.
The women's 200 medley relay (Georgia, Alex, Aranza, Hailey) also broke into the history books with a 1:46.98 swim earning them the 5th fastest time in CUI history.
