MONTEREY Calif.- On day one of the PCSC Championships, the Golden Eagles led three top-4 relay finishes. The CUI swim team got off to a decent start at the 2023 PCSC Conference Championships at East Los Angeles College.
The defending champion men earned a 3rd place finish in the 200 medley relay with
Lanis Webb,
Ryan Martines,
Isaiah Phillips and
Jack Harris grabbing a bronze by 6/100th of a second. The 800 free relay finished fourth with
Chris Haygood,
Hunter May,
Joey Molettieri and
Landon McIntire coming home with the 6th fastest time in CUI history. Chris's 1:40.6 lead off and Landon's 1:40.8 anchor leg were among the best in the event.
The women's 200 medley relay of
Georgia Caraway,
Alexandra Leland,
Ryan Burke and
Hailey Garcia blasted to the 2nd fastest time in CUI history and a 4th place finish in a really fast race! Ryan came back 25 minutes later to help the women's 800 free relay to a 7th place finish and the 11th fastest time in CUI history.
Alice Stainer led off in a solid 1:52 and
Amelia Brady and
Elle Hardey swam strong legs before giving way to Ryan.
In the only individual event of the day four of six Golden Eagles scored points in the 1000 free.
Jon Sutherlin led three scoring men with his 9:54.80 (season best) 8th place.
Garrin Hatfield (12th) and
Payton Bouwhuis (15th) also picked up points for CUI. On the women's side,
Jade Hughes swam to a season best time and the 9th fastest time in CUI history with her 10:54.13 swim.
Makayla Novak and
Zoey Carrillo each swam season best times as well.
The Golden Eagles are back in the water for day 2 prelims at 9:30am. The 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free are on the slate for the morning session.
