MONTEREY PARK, Calif.- The men's and women's swim teams usually make their move on day three of the PCSC Championships but decided to step on the gas a day early. The team put 17 swims into finals and had two relays competing as well.
The 4x50 freestyle relays opened the session. The CUI women put up a fight earning a 6th place finish overall with a time that is also now the 6th fastest in CUI history.

Aranza Martha,
Nicole Tormey and
Hailey Garcia got the day started fast and the men followed with a to-the-wire 3rd place finish in their relay out touching UCSC by 1/100th of a second.
Chris Haygood (20.92 lead off),
Jonathan Dose,
Landon McIntire and
Isaiah Phillips (20.7 anchor swim) raced to a 1:24.21, their 2nd fastest of the year.
In the 500 free,
Alice Stainer came up big finishing 12th in her first collegiate season with a tremendous closing lap.
Jon Sutherlin led the men's 500 at the 350 mark and held on for his fastest time in four seasons, going a 4:37.60, good for 4th and the 5th fastest time in CUI history.
Joey Molettieri was 8th,
Lanis Webb, with a tremendous final 200 yards, earned a PR finishing 12th and
Trevor Dixon rounded out the high-scoring event earning a 14th place finish after getting a PR in the prelims.
The 200 Individual Medley saw
Ryan Burke post a new PR and the 5th fastest time in CUI history as she raced to a 2:09.69 for 10th place. Two more great swims were put down by
Aubrie Carver (PR, 2:11.79, 18th) and a season best for
Ellie Hardey (2:13.45, 22nd).
Hunter May rocketed to a season best in the men's 200 IM (1:54.88, 5th) while
Chance Warriner posted a new PR in getting 11th in the B final (1:56.13).
Garrison Veron slipped under the 2:00 barrier, going a 1:59.96 good for 16th place.
The Golden Eagles saved some speed for the 50 freestyle to close the evening.
Hailey Garcia (season best, 24.22) was 11th,
Aranza Martha (17th, 24.29) won the C final and
Alex Leland (24.47p) was 22nd in the same heat. Aranza now owns the 6th fastest time in CUI history, Alex is now 9th to go with #5 Hailey (from 2022). On the men's side, Chris chipped more time off his season best, earning a bronze medal (20.85) while Isaiah grabbed 8th place in the A final (21.54p).
Jonathan Dose had a great swim in the B final earning 16th place (21.78p).
The Golden Eagles reach "moving day" tomorrow and the team is ready to make a jump in the standings with their best team events, the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 400 Individual Medley and the 4x100 medley relay.
Prelims start at 9:30am and finals are at 5:00pm at East Los Angeles College.
