Benefeito Hits Grand Slam Against No. 25 Point Loma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI baseball team hosted No. 25 PLNU Friday for a doubleheader to begin a four-game series. The Golden Eagles dropped both games on Friday with scores 5-3 and 20-5.

 
In the first game of the day the Golden Eagles got the offense started early in the first inning scoring three runs. Nick Hansen and Nathan Benefeito each tallied an RBI double in the bottom of the first. Freshman Josh Pugh started on the bump for CUI and threw five innings while striking out six with six hits. Scott Wood came into the game to pitch the last four innings with two hits and strikeouts.

 
Junior Brett Finnel got the nod for CUI on the mound in the second game and went three innings while striking out three. The PacWest Player of the Week Benefeito continues to stay hot with another milestone. The Mission Viejo native slugged a grand slam in the which was his fifth long ball of the season which ties teammate Michael Dixon. The grand slam put the Golden Eagles ahead on the scoreboard 5-4 before the Sea Lions answered back with runs.

 
The Golden Eagles will travel down the coast to finish the series against Point Loma on Saturday Apr. 15 with start times of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
