Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. - On the last day of the Triton Invitational, Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team competed against more demanding competitors before weekend's end.
CUI's first opponent of the day was Stanford at noon. Despite a slow start for the Golden Eagles, the first goal of the match came from freshman Jace Peterson, making it his third goal of the season. It wasn't long after before junior Carlos Olat scored another goal for Concordia. Stanford's offense continued to grow stronger with every period and CUI was gradually swept away by the Cardinals' offense. Team captain Jacob Stuart managed to add two more goals for the Golden Eagles before match end. Stanford won with a final score of 19-4.
The next match for Concordia was against UCLA. It was a moment of good-natured rivalry as head coach Justin Johnson faced former USA National teammate, UCLA head coach Adam Wright. The Green and the Gold flew out of the gates with another goal by Jace Peterson despite the Bruins' formidable defense. Not too long after, junior Relja Mitic and sophomore Harry Bentham each scored a goal for CUI. It was no easy feat to score as UCLA dominated the waters and scored around six goals each period. The last match of the day was lost with a final score of 20-3.
Next weekend, the Golden Eagles will take on Pomona-Pitzer at the Redlands Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9.
