IRVINE, Calif. – After knocking off the defending national champions on Labor Day, the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team is your PacWest Team of the Week!
No. 17 CUI dominated No. 1 Western Washington and posted an eye-popping 4-0 win on Monday, exacting some revenge from last year's loss in the postseason up in the Pacific Northwest. It was the first time CUI has defeated the No. 1 team in the nation since moving up to the NCAA DII level in women's soccer.
Sophomore goalie
Riley Urquiza earned PacWest Defender of the Week honors after she helped spearhead Concordia's shutout of the Vikings. Urquiza came up with three saves against WWU and combined with
Erica Ihlein for the clean sheet.
In addition to the 1-0 loss to No. 24 Cal State LA last Thursday, Urquiza now sports a 0.52 Goals Against Average after playing a pair of nationally-ranked programs.
The Golden Eagles play again this Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. over at Cal State Dominguez Hills. It marks the beginning of a four-game stretch against CCAA schools before PacWest Confernece play begins on Saturday, Sept. 23 against Point Loma.
Concordia's next home match for the women is slated for Thursday, Sept, 21 at 6:30 p.m. against Cal State East Bay.
