IRVINE, Calif. – Maybe the Concordia softball team should actually be nicknamed the Sweepers.
For the second time this season, the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles swept the weekly PacWest awards with
Missy Nemeth earning her third Player of the Week honor.
Senior pitcher
Cortney Koelmans was also tabbed as the most outstanding athlete in the circle and is your PacWest Pitcher of the Week.
Plus, the first-place Golden Eagles held on to the No. 24 ranking in the NFCA DII top 25 poll for the second straight week and were named the PacWest Team of the Week for the second time this spring.
Nemeth hit .385 (5-for-13) in the recent four-game sweep of Academy of Art. She added 6 RBI and worked three walks. The Glendora, Calif. native leads the entire conference with 20 RBI entering Wednesday. Nemeth is also tied for first in the PacWest with four homers to this point in the season.
Koelmans leads the entire PacWest in wins with her 7-1 overall record. She tossed ten shutout innings last week, with a pair of road victories over the Urban Knights. Koelmans went five innings in both starts, allowed only six total hits and struck out eight over the course of those two outings.
CUI has not lost a game that Koelmans has started and she brings a stellar 1.06 ERA to the table.
On deck for the Green and Gold is a home doubleheader this Friday, March 8 against their rivals from Biola. The twin bill starts at 3 p.m. as part of the university's staff tailgate promotion.
