IRVINE, Calif. – After coming off a series win over Chaminade last week, the Concordia baseball team is your PacWest Team of the Week. They have improved to fourth in conference with 10-10 in PacWest play and 15-15 overall.
The Golden Eagles earn their first PacWest team of the week award after winning three of the four games against Chaminade. CUI split the first day winning 10-4 and dropping 3-4 in the second. Concordia started the second day with a 13-3 mercy rule win against the Silverswords which this rule was put into effect last season and was the first time coming into play for CUI. The Green and Gold closed out the series with a close 4-3 victory.
Not only was the offense effective but the pitching contributed to the wins as
Brett Finnel was having a no-hitter into the sixth and earned his first win of the season along with seven strikeouts.
Jason Rhodenbaugh picked up his first win and former
PacWest Pitcher of the Week and NCAA DII Pitcher of the Week Jake Covey finished with his first save.
During the series senior
Michael Dixon went 10-for-16 and hit .625 for the week and earned PacWest Player of the Week with these impressive numbers. Dixon scored seven runs during the four game stanza and drove in seven runs. He is currently on a seven-game hitting streak where he has topped at eight earlier this season.
In the first game of the series Dixon was superb going 5-for-5 and drove in four runs while hitting his eighth double on the season. With a 13-3 mercy rule victory the outfielder helped blasting a two-run homer to left field to start the momentum for CUI.
The Oakland, Calif. native currently has a .400 hitting percentage which sits fourth in the PacWest conference. He also leads in many categories for CUI on the season with 26 runs, 44 hits, and 30 RBI.
The Golden Eagles will continue conference play against Hawai'i Pacific at Golden Eagles Field in back-to back days staring starting Friday Apr. 12 with 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start times. CUI will finish Saturday Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
