CUI Women's Track & Field, Softball Among Teams With Most Honorees

IRVINE, Calif. – For the third straight time, more than 200 Concordia University Irvine student-athletes earned Academic All-PacWest honors.

This summer, CUI featured 229 honorees, which is just two off the school record that was set a year ago.

The league recognized all PacWest student-athletes who earned at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and participated in at least one regular season game or competition during the recent 2023-24 school year. (Cross country runners were eligible to be recognized twice since many of them also participate in a second sport in the spring on the track and field teams).

The CUI women's track and field team featured the most Academic All-PacWest selections with 33, while the men's track and field squad can also boast 30 honorees.  The baseball team, who reached the PacWest Conference tournament championship game for the first time this spring, was right behind with 28 Academic All-PacWest selections.

Both nationally ranked CUI women's soccer and softball teams had 24 student-athletes represented, which was more than 80 percent of those entire squads. The women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Regional playoffs and won a playoff game for the second straight season, while the CUI softball team defended its title as PacWest Tournament champions and finished in first place for the sixth straight season atop the standings.

In fact, nearly 70 percent of CUI student-athletes that play for PacWest sports made this esteemed list.

Other conferences stagger their academic announcements throughout the summer months. Also, all NCAA DII-sponsored teams (21 of CUI's 22 sports) are eligible for the D2ADA Academic Award which is always announced in the later half of the summer.
