Box Score 2 San Diego, Calif. - The Concordia men's water polo team wrapped up the Triton Invitational with games against No. 3 Stanford and No. 6 UC Irvine. The second day proved to be as challenging as the first for the Golden Eagles.
Undeterred by their ranked opponents, Concordia tallied most of its goals early on. Junior Kai Young secured the first goal of the day and his first career-goal for the Golden Eagles. Not too long after, Jacob Stuart and Sam Diamond added a goal each to Concordia's board. The Cardinals strengthened their defenses to ward off the Green and the Gold. By the end of the second period, Jacob Stuart scored the final CUI goal of the match. The Costa Mesa native Griffin Beth tallied five saves against Stanford's offensive attempts. The Cardinals won 24-4.
The final match of the Triton Invitational was against CUI's next-door neighbor, UC Irvine. The Golden Eagles broke double digits for the first time in the tournament. Concordia was led by the dynamic duo Jacob Stuart and Harry Bentham who racked up three goals each. Lucas Rodriguez captured his second goal of the season, while Carlos Olat broke past the Anteaters defense and scored two goals of his own. UCI managed to break away in the second period with nine goals, but the Golden Eagles diminished their scoring by match's end. The goals scored for each period were as follows: 1-6, 3-9, 2-5, and 4-4.
The Concordia men's water polo team closed out the weekend with an overall record of 0-4. The Golden Eagles are on the road next week for their match against LMU on Thursday, Sept. 12.
