Pelascini & Williams Turn In Amazing Performances on First Day of Competition

IRVINE, Calif. – After just one day of competition, the Concordia University Irvine track and field teams already have notched two school records and multiple provisional qualifying marks.

Facing solid competition out in the Midwest, the Golden Eagles fielded a bunch of fast times and high marks across the board.

Newcomer Parker Williams now owns the top two marks in program history in the 60m hurdles. He clocked a speedy 8.17 seconds on Friday before following that up with an even faster time of 8.12 later that day. That moved him in to third place in finals and 26th on the national list.

Joshua Collier joined Williams with a personal best in the 400m indoor competition as well.

Giovana Pelascini joined the fun later on with an exceptional well-rounded day. She racked up 3,489 points and set the school record in the pentathlon. Plus, she reserved a National provisional mark and ranks 13th in the nation. Along the way, Pelascini set a new meet record in the 60 hurdles (9.01) while racing to a time of 2:27.17 in the 800m race. She also went 1.59 in the high jump and 4.97 in the long jump.

Thrower Trey Vergenz won the men's shot put and claimed 8th place in the weight throw as well.

CUI senior standout Jasmyn Crawford claimed victory in the women's long jump - and a meet record - with a 5.98m effort. She also ran a 7.62 in the 60m dash which put her in second place in the finals and 43rd in the nation.

Taylor Whitfield set a meet record in the 3,000 followed by CUI teammates Mariza Chavez and Elizabeth King. Fellow distance runners Colin Bervig and Garrett Miller also took fourth and sixth place, respectively.

Porshe Eismann placed second overall in the 800 with a season best time, while Lucas Grunden on the men's side placed third in that same event.

The pole vault event was highlighted by Concordia's Bridget Bourdon who placed seventh overall. Max Castin also finished fifth in the men's high jump.

Meanwhile, Ruby Bishop needed only 7.90 seconds to impress in the 60m dash and earn a spot in the top 8.

CUI concludes its showing on Saturday before heading back to Southern California.
