Five CUI Standouts Make History in Journey to NCAA DII Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. -  Five exceptional student-athletes from Concordia University Irvine have officially qualified for the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Emporia, KS. This talented group represents a historic milestone for the program, as it marks the first time CUI has sent men's throwers and a multi-event athlete to the national stage.

Pierre Douat enters the national meet as a top-tier contender in the Decathlon, currently ranked #3 in the nation. The freshman standout achieved a massive score of 7,153 points this season to secure his spot. Douat has proven to be a versatile powerhouse, also holding the team's top marks this year in the 110m hurdles (15.76), pole vault (4.80m), long jump (7.18m), and javelin (48.06m). His high national ranking makes him a primary athlete to watch as he competes for a podium finish in Kansas.

Olivia Holmquist has made an immediate impact in her debut season, qualifying for the high jump and currently sitting in a tie for 5th in the national rankings. The freshman cleared a height of 1.74m to earn her place among the elite competitors in Division II. Her consistent performance throughout the outdoor season has established her as one of the premier young jumpers in the country, and she will look to carry that momentum into her first national championship appearance. Holmquist already owns the school record (set multiple times this season) and emerged as the PacWest champion in the high jump last month as well.

Julia Pisenti continues her dominant junior campaign by qualifying in the Discus, where she is currently ranked #8 nationally. Pisenti delivered a top mark of 50.98m this season to solidify her status as a top-ten seed. While she is also a standout in the shot put (13.72m) and javelin (45.28m), her prowess in the discus has placed her in a strong position to contend for All-American honors in Emporia.

Tim Weller has earned his first trip to nationals in the Discus, coming in with a national rank of #21. The sophomore thrower recorded a personal best mark of 53.50m during the 2026 outdoor season to punch his ticket. As part of the historic first group of CUI men's throwers to qualify, Weller's progression this year has been a key highlight for the team's field events department.

Trey Vergenz rounds out the qualifiers as a dual-event threat, qualifying for the national meet in both the Shot Put and Discus. The junior is ranked #14 in the nation for Shot Put with a top mark of 17.81m and holds a #22 ranking in the Discus. His ability to compete at a high level across multiple throwing disciplines has been vital for the program, and he joins Weller and Douat in making school history as part of this inaugural group of male field qualifiers. He repeated as the hammer throw champion at the PacWest Conference Championships and was second by a hair in the shot put.
