SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Concordia track and field teams rounded out the 2026 PacWest Conference Championships with top five finishes and a total of five individual conference champions. The CUI men finished in fourth place and the women placed fifth out of nine teams.
One of the stars of the week was
Spencer Handorf. The Villa Park High School alum won the 5000 meter race on Championship Saturday, capping off a fantastic week on the track with his second gold medal. The junior distance runner had won the men's steeplechase earlier in the week as well.
SAAC Vice President and junior thrower
Trey Vergenz dueled with Chavez Grey of Fresno Pacific in the men's shot put. Vergenz's throw of 16.65 meters turned heads but Grey just barely nipped him by one inch in the final measurements of their top throws. Vergenz earned eight points with a second place finish. Vergenz had already won the hammer throw on Thursday for the second year in a row, while also placing fourth in the discus.
In the men's 4x100 relay, the CUI quartet of Quinton Nyblod,
Mason Mizuta,
Joshua Cambaliza and
Tyler Harvey earned the bronze.
Andrew Driver, Harvey, Mizuta and
Pierre Douat combined for a sixth place finish later in the 4x400. Harvey was also fifth in the 100m dash and sixth in the 200m dash.
Freshman
Olivia Holmquist continued her assault on the CUI record books with an impressive performance in the high jump. The Hawaiian native scored a 1.74 meter mark (clearing 5 feet and 8.5 inches) to distance herself without any doubt from the rest of the competition. She had already broken the indoor high jump school record twice earlier this semester and now Holmquist is also a PacWest Champion. She also placed 12th in the triple jump.
Julia Pisenti took sixth in the women's shot put.
Emma Timmermans was fourth in the 1500 and seventh in the 5000 race while Giovanni Pelascini was fifth in the 100 hurdles.
Veronica Campbell,
Cleo Pele,
Jordyn Norwood, and Aubri Le took fifth in the 4x100.
