SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Among the many highlights halfway through the PacWest Conference Championships, a trio of Concordia Golden Eagles have already emerged with conference titles.
Trey Vergenz started things off on Thursday buy repeating in the Hammer Throw. The junior and SAAC representative for the men's track and field team came in with a mark of 54.73 meters (179' 6"). CUI teammate
Mark Lutke also placed fourth in that event which was held at the Chula Vista Training Center.
On Friday,
Spencer Handorf and
Gavin Hellerstedt placed first and second respectively in the men's steeplechase. Handorf took gold with a sizzling time of 9:26.68 while Hellerstedt was about seven seconds behind him. The distance duo claimed 18 points for the CUI men.
Tim Weller also shined in the men's discuss. The sophomore from Germany placed second with eight points and a toss of 53.50 meters (175' 6"). Vergenz placed fourth and picked up five more points for CUI as well.
Freshman
Pierre Douat also took second in the pole vault and was fourth in the long jump.
After Friday's portion of the meet was complete, the CUI men have 69 points and Fresno Pacific is in first with 94 points.
Julia Pisenti - who has racked up multiple school records this season - added Concordia's third victory by throwing the javelin farther than any PacWest competitors.Â
Alexis Sumner,
Whitney Griffith and
Audrey Sanchez rounded out the TOp 8 in that event to pick up additional points for the CUI women.
Freshman
Addison Barker was second in the pole vault and joined by
Bridget Bourdon in that competition. Bourdon placed sixth to team with Barker for a total of 11 points for CUI in that event.
Entering Saturday, the CUI women are in second place with 69 points and only one point behind Azusa Pacific (70 points). Biola is third with currently 62 points to their ledger.
